Details This is the first release British quad from 1944 stone litho by Stafford & Co. and some interesting reviews from some papers long gone including the Daily Herald and The Sunday Pictorial with the Sunday Express contribution: "This new Mr. Powell knows his stuff." The "new" refers to Dick Powell completely changing from the crooner who first appeared in musicals a decade prior and has been transformed into the hard-boiled private eye Philip Marlowe caught up in two rough, tough and nasty cases that in time evolve into one. This "perfect film noir" defines the economic use of voice over that holds good today as the best example of the technique as pioneered here by director Edward Dmytryk. This incredible film poster has the most amazingly detailed charcoal profiles of the three stars who give unforgettable performances. The reviews and the colours used in the design of the poster are just perfect and really enforce the "NEW" type of film that we now know as film noir. Great threepenny bit logo plus RKO Radio Pictures logo. This wonderful film poster also has the benefit of a preprinted stone litho part poster on the reverse as of course this was wartime and paper was in short supply and reused. There are areas of thin conservation tape on the reverse but what a great survivor.
